The Ministry of Works and Transport is cracking down on the corrupt issuance of driving licences, warning that bribery and bought licences are putting lives at risk on the roads. 

Reports of bribery linked to the issuing of driver and learner licences appear to be on the decline. The Roads Authority said it has not recorded any such cases this year. Speaking to NBC News, Corporate Communications Manager Hileni Fillemon said incidents related to bribery have dropped over the years.

Two foreign nationals were arrested for attempting to bribe an official of NamRA with N$50,000 in Windhoek.

The arrest of the two foreign nationals follows a sting operation by NamRA and the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Police national spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, has announced that the police have taken note of the allegations of bribery made against one of its members.
