!Gawaxab, associates fined N$1 million for contravening merger regulations

The Namibian Competition Commission (NaCC) has fined the Governor of the Bank of Namibia, together with two other parties, N$1 million for contravening merger regulations.

The fine pertains to Johannes !Gawaxab's business undertakings before his appointment by the late President Hage Geingob as the Governor of the Central Bank.

!Gawaxab was appointed as Governor of the Bank of Namibia in 2020.

Swapo Party VP previews major political development at Central Committee meeting

Swapo Party Vice President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has informed the party's Central Committee members that they were meeting at the backdrop of a major event to unfold on the country's political landscape. 

She was addressing the first ordinary Central Committee meeting of the year.

In her address, Nandi-Ndaitwah lambasted Germany's ambassador to Namibia, who allegedly discussed Namibia-EU relations on behalf of the European Union.

Dordabis Village residents cramped on land

Dordabis Village is partly owned by the government, with the rest owned privately. 

The population of the village, which is around 3,000 people, is cramped on this land. 

Some of the public services, such as the graveyard, are falling into private land owned by the Kraft family. Some of these services come at a hefty price for some impoverished and unemployed families.

The graveyard at the village has been an issue of contention, particularly its status as being privately owned.  

First 2024 Swapo Party CC meeting set for 09 March

The Swapo Central Committee's first meeting for 2024 on Saturday will be held without its elected president and chairperson, Dr. Hage Geingob.

The death of Dr. Geingob on February 4 robbed the Swapo Party of its president. 

After three weeks of mourning, Dr. Geingob was buried at the Heroes Acre on February 25.

It will be a sombre affair, as Geingob's place on the podium will be taken by his vice president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

nbc commended for collaboration with regional broadcasters

The Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) has been commended for its collaboration and engagement with regional broadcasters.

Its role during the mourning period for the death of the late President Hage Geingob became more pronounced when regional and international broadcasters across Africa and the world had to take its feed to broadcast to their people.

The Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, Dr. Audrin Mathe says the nbc is admired in the region for the way it does things.

Namibia greylisted by the Financial Action Task Force

Namibia has been greylisted by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) because of concerns over the effectiveness of some of its compliance standards with anti-money laundering, combating the financing of terrorism, and combating proliferation financing provisions.

In 2022, Namibia underwent evaluation by FATF, during which shortcomings in the effectiveness of compliance were identified.

Namibia was given 12 months until the end of October 2023.

Trustco confident about Namibia's growth prospects

Trustco, which emerged last year from a gruelling fight with the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, where it is listed, has secured a close to N$1 billion investment from an American company.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Trustco, Quinton van Rooyen Junior, said the investment is a vote of confidence in Namibia's future.

In an interview with nbc News about the investment of N$950 million, Van Rooyen Junior said foreign investors should, before putting their money down, look at how safe the country is, its legal and financial environment, and its governance structures.

Namibia condemns Germany's support of Israel's carnage in Gaza

Namibia has condemned Germany for supporting Israel in its genocidal acts in Gaza.

Germany expressed its support for the attacks on Friday, as Israel was defending itself against South Africa's case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing it of genocide and calling for the ICJ to stop the Jewish State from continuing its war in Gaza.

South Africa told the court in The Hague that Israel is busy with the destruction of infrastructure in Gaza and of the Palestinian people.

Israel blames Hamas for war on Gaza

Israel has shifted the entire blame for its alleged genocidal acts in Gaza on Hamas during its submissions to the International Criminal Court in The Hague today.

South Africa has reported Israel to the International Court of Justice to stop its war in Gaza against the Palestinian people, who have been killed and uprooted from their homes.

Namibia expresses support for South Africa's genocide case against Israel

The case that was launched by South Africa in December calls for an end to alleged genocidal acts by Israel and the people of Gaza.

In this case, South Africa calls on Israel to prevent genocide against the people of Gaza. The legal team argued that Israeli leaders' statements are intended to destroy Gaza and its people.
