Over N$450,000 raised at Luderitz Crayfish Festival Gala Dinner

More than N$450,000 was raised during the 2023 Luderitz Crayfish Festival Gala Dinner.

The festival is slated for the weekend of April 27–29.

The primary objective of the festival is to position the town of Luderitz as a tourism destination as well as serve as a platform for businesses and individuals to invest in the town.

Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Silvia Makgone launched the 2023 festival.

Offenders serving time at the Evaristus Shikongo Correctional Facility near Tsumeb frequently turn to God for hope and the institution's annual choir competition allows offenders a platform to worship. 

The nbc visited the facility as offenders prepare for this year's choir competition.

Being in a correctional facility gives offenders time to reevaluate their lives and consider making better decisions.

NBC premiered 14 short local films

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) continues to promote local content as it premiered 14 short films in partnership with 'No Plot Productions'.

nbc's Director General, Stanley Similo, expressed pride in the project while calling on the business community to support the local film industry.

Similo says this will assist in creating rich content that will pave the way for Namibian films to be showcased on different platforms globally and, in turn, grow the country's filmmaking industry.

NORED enters 3 year agreement with nbc

In its efforts to address challenges relating to the provision of electricity services in the northern parts of Namibia, electricity supplier, Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (NORED), has entered into a three-year agreement with the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc).

 Acting Chief Executive Officer of NORED, Toivo Shovaleka, says there is a lack of knowledge regarding the electricity industry among the public.

According to nbc's Director General Stanley Similo, the organization is transitioning away from solely providing platforms for beauty pageants.

Sharpley returned home from New Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America, where she participated in the Miss Universe pageant.

It was an emotional affair for the beauty queen as her father, alongside her grandmother, welcomed her at the airport.

The beauty queen says it was an honor to represent Namibia internationally and quite an experience and journey for her.

Three chosen for Multichoice Talent Factory Class of 2023

Namibia will be represented by three aspiring filmmakers in the latest cohort of the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), MultiChoice Namibia (MCN) has announced.

The three are Fimanekweni Paulus, Tekla Nakale, and Romeo Urikeraka, who were chosen from 60 applicants to participate in the MTF's 12-month training program in Lusaka, Zambia.

According to a press release issued by MultiChoice on Tuesday, the program focuses on theory and hands-on filmmaking experience, including scriptwriting, cinematography, editing, and audio post-production.

Ms Namibia Heads to New Orleans for Ms Universe

Miss Namibia Cassia Sharpley left the country on Saturday to represent Namibia at the Miss Universe pageant in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the United States of America.

Sharpley has been chosen to represent Namibia at the 71st Miss Universe pageant, which will be held on January 14, 2023.

She will be competing against other beauty queens from 90 countries in the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), which is a global, inclusive organization that celebrates all cultures, backgrounds, and religions.

Governor's Music Bash at Gam a Huge Success

For the first time in a long time, the youth of Gam filled the Gam Combined School hall while some peered from the windows to witness and enjoy a music bash.

It was the final event for the Gam Christmas Extravaganza, courtesy of Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua.

Get-togethers such as these hardly happen in Gam, as there are no recreational areas nor performances from top Oviritje artists.
