Call to reach out to marginalised learners

As parents are preparing to send their children back to school, the caretaker of marginalised learners and students at Rundu Erica Uses is still waiting for assistance from good Samaritans to send their children to school.

Erica Uses, also from the marginalised community, is an unemployed mother of four who takes care of more than 55 marginalised learners and students in the Kavango East Region.

She provides food, toiletries, and other basic needs for school. Uses, however, says this has been a struggle each year.

Aqua Emergency Services are ready for festive season

Rundu-based Aqua Emergency Care Services say they are ready to attend to any emergencies in and around the region this festive season.

There are only three private ambulance services in one of Namibia's most populated towns.

It's the festive season.

It is a busy time for emergency service providers.

Aqua Emergency Care Services started operating in February of this year.

They have so far responded to ninety callouts, the majority being motor vehicle accidents.

Mobile homes continue to experience long queues

Long queues for SIM card registration continue to be observed at MTC's mobile homes as the public rushes at the last minute to register their numbers.

The public was given an ample time of one year to register their numbers; however, the majority waited until the last minute.

Since the start of December, there has been a high turnout of people at mobile homes, and calls to extend the deadline are at the moment not being received.

Some people claim that often they go back home without being assisted because of the long queue.

Power outage at Ndonga Linena Green Scheme affects production

The Ndonga Linena Green Scheme farm manager fears that an electricity outage there may affect the farms' yield for the current planting season.

Janno Rentel says the power outage at the green scheme has become prevalent.

Farm manager Janno Rentel says NORED needs to act urgently on the matter.

He says that for the past three months, they've experienced power outages for at least three consecutive days.  

Murder accused denied bail

Timotheus Muronga accused of the murder of his ex-girlfreind was denied bail in the Rundu magistrate court on Wednesday.

Kapapero Ndano who was found on Monday at Tumweneni informal settlement in Rundu with stab wounds. 


Muronga who made his firts appearnce on Wednesday was advised to get legal representation.

Muronga is reported to be Kando's ex-boyfriend and were in a relationship since 2020.

It is alleged that their relationship ended last year due to violence.

Gosbert Sikerete Mandema remembered

Mourners described the late Gosbert Sikerete Mandema as a gallant and tenacious son of the soil who was willing to do anything for his country.

The former mayor of Rundu was remembered at a state memorial service in Rundu today.

Various speakers spoke about the life and times of the late Gosbert Sikerete Mandema, giving a glimpse into the life of the veteran of the Liberation Struggle.

Family and loved ones described the late Mandema as a family-oriented man who was a unifier, saying his death has left a void.

Rundu Residents Launch Cleanup Campaign

Residents would often just choose a random spot and transform it into a dumping site—the result, an eyesore.

Faith-based organisations a challenge

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology says the government is encountering some challenges with certain faith-based organisations.

Dr. Peya Mushelenga was giving a presentation on the collaboration between the church and government in socio-economic development at an ELCIN capacity-building workshop in Rundu.

Dr. Mushelenga says during a difficult period like the COVID-19 pandemic, some faith-based organisations took a stance that was contrary to what the government was advising.

ECN mock registration without glitches

Deputy Director of Democracy Building Marilyn Kazetjikuria says the Electoral Commission of Namibia's (ECN) mock voter registration in Rundu went without a glitch.

"We are very happy with the performance of the system, and we are very happy with the turnout of the people."

The purpose of the exercise was to test the real-time functionality and usability of the enhanced and upgraded Integrated Mobile Voter Registration System in preparation for the General Registration of Voters in 2024.
