Veterinary experts in Zambezi to establish cause of cattle deaths

A team of veterinary experts is in the Zambezi Region on a fact-finding mission to establish the cause of cattle deaths in the flood plains of the region.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed hemorrhagic septicemia as the cause.

Hemorrhagic septicemia is a disease of water buffalo and cattle in tropical regions caused by specific serotypes of Pasteurella.

Farmers were advised to immediately vaccinate all their healthy cattle against Pasteurella, black quarter, botulism, and anthrax, as such diseases are common during the dry season in the region.

Kavango East region records gains in past year

The Governor of the Kavango East, Bonifatius Wakudumo, says despite the hardships experienced in 2022, the region also recorded moments of wonder and joy. 

Wakudumo delivered his state of the region address in Rundu today. 

In his address, the Governor highlighted successes made in education, health, and agriculture.

Our region's 37.5% share in the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level examination achieved the number one (1) position nationally.

Men more likely to die or get injured on national roads-MVA

74% of men have died in road accidents while 60% have been injured in the past three years on national roads.

This is according to the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund, whose Chief Executive Officer is calling on women to play a greater role in promoting road safety.

A two-day conference for women in road safety ended at Swakopmund on Friday.

The platform was aimed at influencing appropriate road user behaviour and allowing women to find their voice among demands for safer roads.

Namibia records 10 800 cases of Malaria and 30 deaths since January this year

Namibia has recorded 10,800 cases of malaria and 30 deaths since January this year. The national indoor residual spraying campaign has thus been launched at Okongo in Ohangwena, one of the regions vulnerable to malaria.

In 2021, the country recorded 13,732 cases of malaria.

So far this year, cases are lower with 6,696 having originated from the Zambezi, followed by Ohangwena with 1080, Kavango East with 864, and Kavango West with 648 cases.
