The Namibia Police (NamPol) has also been on the ground assessing the flood situation in Ohangwena Region, which is advancing towards the Oshana Region.

The aim is to ensure that the police have access to routes leading to villages surrounded by water in case of criminal incidents that might occur, as well as to assist residents in those areas if they become flooded.

The police also looked at the borders between Namibia and Angola, where the Ngungula service station operated.

The Oshana, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, and Omusati regions have recorded a decline in crime-related incidents during the Christmas period.

However, those topping the chart are rape and suicide.

Two rape cases were recorded at Ohangwena on Christmas Eve.

It is alleged that a 56-year-old woman who was returning home from cuca shops at around eleven o'clock in the night was raped by two youths, ages 20 and 22. 

One allegedly held her down while the other one raped her. The duo left behind evidence that led to their identification and subsequent arrest.

Namibia has recorded 10,800 cases of malaria and 30 deaths since January this year. The national indoor residual spraying campaign has thus been launched at Okongo in Ohangwena, one of the regions vulnerable to malaria.

In 2021, the country recorded 13,732 cases of malaria.

So far this year, cases are lower with 6,696 having originated from the Zambezi, followed by Ohangwena with 1080, Kavango East with 864, and Kavango West with 648 cases.
