The Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, has officially inaugurated the Omulondo-Oshuuli district gravel road in Ohangwena.
The road will improve access to five villages, two schools and other public services.
The project covered 23 kilometres, ensuring reliable access to services and opening up new economic opportunities for locals.
For many years, residents navigated difficult terrain and, in most cases, only used four-wheel-drive vehicles.
Nekundi said roads are silent enablers of development, and the socio-economic impact of the Omulondo-Oshuuli road will be felt immediately and for many years to come.
"Today we hand over a road that will improve mobility, strengthen livelihoods, and support development for Omulondo, Oshuuli, and surrounding communities. Let us use it safely, preserve it responsibly, and ensure that the benefits we have spoken about today are realised by this generation and the next."
Ohangwena Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa is also pleased to see improved road infrastructure contributing to the regional economy and enhancing connectivity between people, markets, and other essential services.
The N$53-million gravel road was jointly funded by the Government of Namibia and KfW of Germany.
Germany's representative, Ursula Hein Rooinasie, reiterated that the transport sector is the backbone of economic and social development.
