Okahandja Municipality unveils five-year strategic plan

In an effort to improve the lives of Okahandja residents, the town's municipality has launched a five-year strategic plan.

The strategic plan aims to provide basic and affordable service to residents, and accelerate land and housing delivery as well as water provision to the residents. 

The plan includes granting 5,000 families security of tenure, while 705 families will receive erven.

In addition, it will also bring infrastructure and institutional development.

Education Minister emphasises importance of higher education and innovation in Namibian economy

Higher Education, Training, and Innovation Minister Itah Kandjii-Murangi has said the development of professional and technical human resources, research, science, technology, and innovation infrastructure is the cornerstone of the transformation of the Namibian economy.

Kandjii-Murangi made the remarks during a high-level tertiary education funding budget review dinner held in the capital on Thursday.

Naingopo Primary in need of infrastructural upgrade

Naingopo Primary School in the Kavango West Region, situated over 80 km south of Rundu, is in urgent need of an infrastructural upgrade.

Community members feel that the school has been neglected for many years, with not even the bare necessities of a school.

Naingopo Primary School was established in 1978 and has a learner population of 75 with two teachers.

The school operates from pre-primary to grade three, using a multi-grade teaching method.

Challenges hamper lessons at Dobe Primary School

The Dobe Primary School in Tsumkwe is faced with a high incidence of teacher and learner absenteeism, as well as a lack of good infrastructure and furniture.

The School Board Chairperson, |Ui Jolo, told nbc News that such challenges are hampering lessons.

The one-block village school, which was built six years ago, accommodates 37 San-speaking learners between grades one and three.

The school has no proper kitchen or dining area, ablution facilities, fence around the school, or teacher's house.

Mining & fishing industries implored to invest in transport infrastructure

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economics and Public Administration has called on the mining and fishing industries in the Erongo Region to invest in the development and upgrading of transport infrastructure.

Natangwe Ithete made this call during a visit to the Trans-Namib train station at Walvis Bay.

National Council committee examines road infrastructure

An envisaged upgrade of a 140-kilometre gravel road between Aussenkehr and Luderitz in the ||Kharas Region to a standard bitumen road will enable grape producing farmers to export their produce directly to the European market through the port of Luderitz.

||Kharas Infrastructure development projects progress well

The ||Kharas Regional Council is making progress in implementing infrastructure development projects despite slow movement due to budgetary constraints.

Government agencies gave a progress report on capital projects for the 2022–2023 financial year during a Regional Development Coordination Committee meeting at Keetmanshoop.

Among the developmental projects underway is the construction of the ||Kharas Regional Council Office Park, which stands at 97% complete, while the Karasburg West Constituency Office stands at 87% complete.
