Farm workers camping along road plea for government intervention

Farm workers who have been camping along the corridors of the Okahandja and Grootfontein Districts since 2022 are calling on the government to relocate them as a matter of urgency.

The group, which was evicted from commercial farms in the area, says they are losing livestock due to a lack of grazing land and fodder.

Some of the group were born on the farms from which they have now been evicted when their parents had previously worked there.

However, when their employer died, the farm changed ownership, and they were left stranded.

Government communication officers must strive to make communication channels more accessible to all citizens, regardless of location or socio-economic status.

This reminder was made by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, who urged the officers to give accurate information promptly and transparently.

The communication officers are gathered in Swakopmund for a five-day workshop that focuses on the government's communication strategy.

Government called provide sufficient resources to allow the force to combat organised crime

The Inspector General of the Namibian Police has called on the government to provide sufficient resources to allow the force to combat transnational organised crime in the SADC Region.

Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo made this call during a two-day regional Multi-Stakeholder Transnational Organised Crime Conference at Swakopmund.

Shikongo says Namibia is working on a comprehensive strategy with SADC member states to identify, understand, and combat transnational organised crime in the region.

This would, however, require financial support from governments.

Government ministries and private companies called to develop their plots in Nkurenkuru

Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba is calling on government ministries and private companies to develop the plots they've secured from the Nkurenkuru Town Council.

Pohamba says Nkurenkuru is strategically located for success in various business sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism, among others.

The former president is the patron of the Nkurenkuru Expo, and his speech was read on his behalf at a dinner aimed at raising funds for the expo, slated for next month.

Tulikonge Water Express inaugurated

The Tulikonge Water Express was inaugurated at Katima Mulilo  in the Zambezi Region to supplement government efforts in water transport.

The boat, valued at more than N$670,000, was assembled out of the desire for affordable recreation and transportation for residents of Katima Mulilo and the region at large.

The boat was assembled locally with local materials, partially funded by the government through the Ministry of Trade and Industrialization, with more than N$201,000 used to purchase one of the two engines and other materials.

Namapan veterinary checkpoint watchmen in need of electricity

Watchmen at the Namapan veterinary checkpoint in the Otjozondjupa Region are calling on the government to provide them with electricity there.

The checkpoint has not had electricity for the past five years, making it difficult for them to operate at night.

The checkpoint at Namapan en route to Gam is a veterinary point tasked with controlling foot and mouth disease.

The checkpoint has been without electricity for the past five years, and sometimes the officials make use of a generator, which lasts for at most three hours.

Batswana group of Namibian descent to be repatriated

The Namibian government is preparing for the repatriation of a group of Batswana of Namibian descent.

The group will be received at Gam.

The returnees are those whose forefathers fled to Botswana during the German era.

The government, through the National Youth Service (NYS), has been hard at work preparing a 21-hectare piece of land in Gam for the returning families to settle on.

The team on site is still waiting on the arrival of gravel stones for making concrete before the rest of the fencing poles will be erected.

Government is committed to service delivery - Sileze

Good Samaritans and government urged to aid homeless

A caretaker for displaced people at the Katutura Youth Complex has appealed to good Samaritans, including the government, to come to the aid of the homeless.

A number of homeless people were moved to the sports grounds in March 2020, during the outbreak of COVID-19.

It was raining and cold on Monday, and the temporary tents provided for them three years ago were wet through.

Many wonder why these people are homeless, where they come from, and why they are not returning to their families.
