Good Samaritans and government urged to aid homeless

A caretaker for displaced people at the Katutura Youth Complex has appealed to good Samaritans, including the government, to come to the aid of the homeless.

A number of homeless people were moved to the sports grounds in March 2020, during the outbreak of COVID-19.

It was raining and cold on Monday, and the temporary tents provided for them three years ago were wet through.

Many wonder why these people are homeless, where they come from, and why they are not returning to their families.

Namibia committed to improving the lives of people with disabilities

The Namibian government remains committed to improving the lives of people with disabilities.

Hardap Governor Salomon April said this while donating food parcels to people with disabilities at Aranos, courtesy of Rani Trading Group.

The Office of the Hardap Governor also spoiled people with disabilities with a warm meal after the handing-over ceremony.

The event also saw the handover of traditional attire and shoes to the Salomon Boois Primary School cultural group.

Government is prepared for the imminent drought - Kuugongelwa-Amadhila

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila says the government is prepared for the imminent drought due to the poor rainfall received this rainy season. 

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said this in response to an urgent oral question posed by the official opposition leader, McHenry Venaani, who asked how prepared the government is for the impending drought.

Venaani pointed out that, based on the weather patterns seen so far, Namibia is headed for a drought.

Namibia committed to widening access to institutions of higher learning- Mbumba

The Namibian government is committed to widening access to institutions of higher learning in the country.

This was said by Vice President Nangolo Mbumba when he inaugurated the University of Namibia's (UNAM) Southern Campus lecture hall complex at Keetmanshoop in the ||Kharas Region.

The government invested N$93 million for the first phase of the construction of the campus.

The construction of the complex, which consists of lecture halls, geoscience laboratories, and administration offices, started in 2016.

STCF reiterates support for Government in genocide negotiations

The Southern Traditional Communities' Foundation has reiterated its support for Government in the genocide negotiations.

The STCF Chairperson, Dawid Gertze made the comment at a media conference held at Keetmanshoop. 

Gertze appeals to the Government to expedite the genocide reparations talks with Germany in coordination with all parties involved and bring it to a conclusion. 

Government urged to increase budget allocation to tourism sector

The Chairperson of the Namibia Travel and Tourism Forum, Nrupesh Soni, has advised the government to increase its budget allocation to the tourism sector this year for the industry's speedy recovery.

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council report of 2022, the travel and tourism industry contributed more than N$19.4 million to Namibia's GDP in 2021.

According to the report, the travel and tourism industry contributed more than N$29 million in 2019, before the outbreak of COVID-19.

Community Against Stock Theft Organization calls on government to nationalize the body

Vice Chairperson of the Community Against Stock Theft Organization, Kahepako Kakujaha is calling on the government to nationalize the body, saying livestock theft has become a cross-regional problem of unimaginable size.

Kakujaha also says the Criminal Prosecution Act should be repealed to deny bail to repeat offenders.

The consultative meeting brought together representatives from Otjozondjupa and Omaheke Regions.

Government brings services closer to Okaku residents

The government has made considerable work in bringing services closer to the inhabitants of the Okaku Constituency in the Oshana Region.

Eighty-five percent of the residents in the constituency have access to clean drinking water.

The residents of Okaku will go to the polls on the 17th of this month, to elect a new regional councillor.

The position became vacant following the death of former councillor Gerson Kapenda last year.

Okaku is one of the largest constituencies in the Oshana Region.

Government called to fix kitchen stove at Divundu Secondary School

The principal of Divundu Secondary School in Kavango East Region, Christoph Kupembona, has called on the government to fix a kitchen stove that has been out of order since last year.

Staff is now preparing food for the more than 400 learners housed there using firewood.

According to Kupembona, learners frequently go to bed and to school on an empty stomach.
