President Geingob lauds his administration for nipping corruption in the bud

President Geingob reiterated that his administration has taken action against corruption, even when high-ranking officials are involved.

Dr. Geingob made reference to former Cabinet ministers, Bernard Esau and Sacky Shangala whom he removed from their positions following their implication in the fishrot scandal.

This and other actions, the President says, is an indication that the Swapo-led government is not shielding corruption as alleged by some.
 

IPC reaffirms to fight corruption come 2024

The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) believes it has what it takes to end corruption, come 2024.

Trevino Forbes, the party's vice president for the Erongo Region, stated this during a recruitment drive in Narraville, Walvis Bay.

"We are the party that puts principles above privilege. We are not faced with positions; we are faced with making a change. All of us standing here joined IPC because we saw the need for change. If everything had gone well, we would not have joined political parties, and we would have been happy."

Corruption destroys public trust, but it equally robs the public of shared resources and opportunities. 

These were some of the remarks shared by the Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Dr Peya Mushelenga, during an engagement with the ||Kharas regional authorities on Nationhood and National Pride at Keetmanshoop.

Dr Mushelenga says leaders entrusted with public resources are responsible for ensuring that the masses benefit from such resources and not just a handful of people.

The Otjozondjupa Governor, James Uerikua has warned that corruption can cause a  decline in the economy, high unemployment and political mistrust if not effectively dealt with. 

Uerikua, who is the Chairperson of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan in Otjozondjupa has called on all stakeholders to maximize the implementation of this plan to fight corruption.

Namibia is a signatory to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, that facilitated the launch of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan.

Collective efforts needed to fight corruption- Frederick

||Kharas Governor Aletha Frederick has reiterated that collective efforts are needed to fight corruption, thereby maintaining a healthy nation. 

She was speaking at a regional stakeholders meeting that deliberated on the National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan Implementation at Keetmanshoop. 

Frederick says the regional platform was created to share information and engage stakeholders regarding the progress of implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan. 

ACC opts to remain tight-lipped on MME corruption allegations

The Anti-Corruption Commission has opted to remain tight-lipped on whether it will pursue any investigations against Mines and Energy Minister Tom Alweendo and Mining Commissioner, Erasmus Shivolo.

The two have been implicated for allegedly benefiting from a N$50 million bribery scandal by awarding fraudulent mining licenses to undeserving firms.

The anti-graft agency opted only to confirm that investigations are underway against Alweendo's former technical advisor, Raphael Muyamba, who has since resigned. 

RDP President wants inflated government projects investigated

Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) president Mike Kavekotora on Wednesday submitted a motion to the National Assembly (NA) calling for in-depth investigations of government projects that involved suspicious tender dealings.

Kavekotora said all government projects where initial tender prices are suspected to have been inflated, should be properly analysed and criminal charges laid against the culprits where possible.

He said poverty, cost of living and unemployment have reached unacceptable levels, partly due to projects for which the prices were inflated.
