Palmwag settlement police station opens

A police station worth N$7 million has been inaugurated at Palmwag Settlement in the Kunene Region's Sesfontein Constituency. 

Police Inspector General Joseph Shikongo says safety and security services are critical for all Namibians to access, to ensure that, and also for officers to be provided with proper structures to work from.

Police officers in the area have been serving the public at the checkpoint since 1998.

The checkpoint was previously used as a veterinary control point and a tourism concession area without accommodation or office facilities.

AU Commission Chair highlights progress, challenges, and calls for unity on Africa Day

To mark the celebration of Africa Day, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has reflected on Africa's journey from 1963 to 2024, celebrating milestones like liberation from colonialism and apartheid and economic growth. 

He also addressed ongoing challenges such as demographic pressures, social constraints, climate change, and governance issues. 

He highlighted the role of youth and women in shaping the future, called for mobilisation to tackle crises, and promoted peace and security.

Concerns arise amid ongoing mass registration efforts

Untraceable sources, chancetakers, and uncooperative parents are some of the concerns about the ongoing mass registration process countrywide. 

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security is conducting the mass registration outreach programme across all 14 regions of Namibia.

Promoting peace and security within the SADC region topped the agenda at the Extra Ordinary Troika Summit in Lusaka, Zambia.

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was among the attendees.

The Troika took stock and tracked progress on the situation in the Cabo Delgado province of northern Mozambique as well as the northern Kivu province in eastern DRC, marred by instability over the years. 

Plans to upgrade Otavi Magistrate's Court underway

Plans to improve the Otavi Magistrate's Court are on the recommendation cards following a visit by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Capital Projects and Legal Affairs, which found the building not conducive to court sessions.

This was confirmed by committee chairperson Tjekero Tweya during a courtesy call to the Otjozondjupa Governors Office, represented by Regional Council Chairperson Marlene Mbakera.

Burglars cause extensive damage at Keetmanshoop SME Park

Burglars caused extensive damage to the Keetmanshoop !Homs-Ai SME Park when they smashed the premises' glass doors to gain entry to offices and SME stalls. 

The break-in occurred over the weekend.

The regional head could, however, not say what items were stolen from the offices and the SME stalls during the burglary. 

Strings of court break-ins raise concerns over legal data security

Namubes notes that gang-infested neighbourhoods are becoming a growing concern for communities, with the safety of learners, parents, teachers, and tourists at stake.

Namibian Army vows continued support to international peace and security efforts

The Namibian Army will continue to enhance its efforts to contribute to international peace, security, and stability.

The Chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), Air Marshall Martin Pinehas, made this remark at the official opening of Hanganee II at Tsjaka in the Omaheke Region.

The NDF and the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) are participating in the joint peace support operation training exercise.

Air Marshall Pinehas said this cooperation has strengthened bilateral ties between the two neighbouring countries.
