Gibeon resident rises to tackle unemployment and poverty

A resident of Gibeon Village in the Hardap Region, Elwin Bloodstaan, has risen to the challenge of tackling unemployment and poverty.

After finding himself unemployed three years ago, Bloodstaan did not lie around idle but turned an open space at the back of his home into a vegetable garden to make ends meet.

As jobs are scarce, he encourages young people to create opportunities through small-scale farming.

The backyard gardener offered to share his skills with those wanting to venture into backyard farming.

Tragic electrocution incident kills Rehoboth resident

A 55-year-old Namibian female died after a tragic electrocution incident in Rehoboth, Hardap Region.

The Namibian police reported that Ingrid Laetitia De Klerk was bathing and suddenly started screaming for help, after which her children found their mother lying unconscious in the bathtub, said the police.

De Klerk was declared dead by the paramedics at the scene. 

Electricians from the Rehoboth Town Council tested a certain voltage of electricity in the water as well as the taps of the bathtub.
