Tsjaka lacks basic provision

The community at Tsjaka in the Kalahari Constituency has acknowledged the government's efforts to bring development to the area's growth point.

Though there are agricultural projects, schools and electricity, proper provision of water, a clinic, and a police station remain critiqued. 

The community aired its concerns during a regional consultation by the National Planning Commission on the National Development Plan Six at Tsjaka in the Kalahari Constituency.

Farmers called to desist from evicting employees due to disagreements

The Chairperson of the Omaheke Regional Council, Ignatius Kariseb, has called on the residents, particularly farmers, to desist from evicting employees because of disagreements.

Kariseb said this when he visited the family of Joseph Jacobs, who has been offloaded along the corridors of the Kalahari Constituency, allegedly by the employer at Farm Somekoms.

Kariseb, who is also the councillor of the Kalahari Constituency, called on the farmers to desist from evicting employees over an argument.

Children's Sanctuary Namibia aims to get vulnerable and orphaned children off the streets

Children's Sanctuary Namibia is a non-profit organization that works with orphaned and vulnerable children in Drimiopsis and the Kalahari Constituency of the Omaheke Region.

The organization, which was established in 2012, aims to get vulnerable and orphaned children off the streets and provide them with basic needs.

Due to a lack of funding, the organization only started operating officially this year.

Prior to its recognition, the organization had been feeding about 30 children every Sunday.

Resettled farmers at Somekoms in Kalahari face water problems

Farming communities resettled at Somekoms in the Kalahari Constituency of the Omaheke Region are facing water problems as the boreholes reportedly contain high levels of nitrates, which are natural chemicals found in the soil, air, and water.

This makes their underground water unsuitable for either human or livestock consumption, with some farmers having reportedly lost some of their livestock.

A pensioner resettled at Somekoms, Angelika Geingos, says their livestock are dying. So far, she has lost more than ten cows due to the water situation.
