Neighborhood watch members at Walvis Bay discover human skeletal remains

Members of a local neighborhood watch at Walvis Bay discovered the skeletal remains of a person in the desert east of the harbor town.

According to Nampol's Unit Commander for Community Affairs in Erongo, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, a human skeleton was found in an area previously used as a burial site by the local community.

Communities have been urged to join neighborhood watch groups as it creates a sense of security and reduces fear of crime during this festive season.

During the holiday season, crime tends to increase exponentially, particularly housebreaking and robberies of personal effects.

NamPol's |Khomas Region spokesperson, Warrant Officer Silas Shipandeni, said measures have been put in place to combat this trend.

"We know that the housebreaking incidents are likely to increase. We have increased our police visibility, and we have enough personnel on the ground."

Freedomland suburb launches neighborhood watch

The Freedomland suburb in Windhoek launched its own Neighbourhood Watch, following an increase in the number of criminal activities in the area.

The launch was witnessed by top police brass and the local political leadership.

In the past, residents walked freely without fear, be it day or night, to carry out their activities.

Some were even sleeping with their doors open when it was too hot.

But with the spate of crimes of different forms and sorts, including violent ones, this has become totally impossible.
