Striking NHE employees call on Urban Ministry's intervention

Striking employees at the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) have appealed to the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, to intervene in the ongoing wage dispute with the management.

The workers marched from the NHE headquarters to the Ministry to hand over the petition to Uutoni.

The workers are demanding a face-to-face dialogue with the management and the new board to end the industrial action. 

NHE strike enters day three

The strike at the National Housing Enterprise today entered its third day.

Employees say their industrial action is not only about salary increments, but overall governance at the company.

NHE Management is adamant that there is no money to effect salary increments.

Workers however say recent events within the institution indicate otherwise. 

They cited as an example, a trip undertaken by management to Cape Town and the holding of executive meetings at hotels instead of the company's boardroom, as well as the unprocedural appointment of certain employees.

Deadlock in wage negotiation leads to strike threat at Keetmanshoop Municipality

A strike is looming at the Keetmanshoop Municipality after wage negotiations reached a deadlock. 

Regional Coordinator for the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) in ||Kharas Region, Kleophas Katuuo told nbc News that municipal workers voted in favor of industrial action. 

This follows after the Labor Arbitrator issued a certificate of an unresolved dispute on January 30.

He accused the Keetmanshoop Municipality's management of having snubbed conciliatory meetings aimed at ending the wage dispute, leaving workers with no choice but to strike.

NHE employees vote to strike

Employees of the Namibia Housing Enterprise (NHE) have voted in favour of engaging in industrial action.

Workers, represented by the Public Service Union of Namibia (PSUN) conducted a vote on whether or not to strike, with 90 percent of workers voting in favour.

The development follows the company's failure to satisfy the workers' demand for a once-off payment of N$15 000, instead of salary increments, which it has stated it cannot afford. 

NHE Employees to vote tomorrow whether to strike or not

Employees at the National Housing Enterprise are scheduled to vote on whether to strike or not tomorrow, after negotiations with management reached a deadlock. 

The Secretary General of Namibia Public Service Union, Matheus Haakuria says negotiating teams had initially agreed on a once off payment of N$15 000 for each employee. 

However, he says the company allegedly reversed its  decision, which forced the employees to reduce the amount to N$10 000.

Haakuria says the NHE board still refuses.

Parliamentary Committee takes on nbc leadership over strike aftermath

The Board and Management of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) held a consultation meeting with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resources and Community Development over the effect of the 2021 strike on employees.

This follows regional visits the committee undertook to nbc offices countrywide, in which employees listed a number of concerns, including alleged failure by management to restore the relationships.

CIS Security Services strike enters third day

A strike by employees of CIS Security Services at Rundu entered its third day, with workers saying the company has allegedly failed to pay them for the past three months.

The company employs 49 guards for its security services contract at the University of Namibia's Rundu Campus.

The workers vowed to continue their strike and only return to work once they received their outstanding salaries.

However, the company's manager and secretary at Rundu went missing after making promises to the striking workers.

Striking Cheetah Cement employees denounce involvement of NEFF

Striking employees of Cheetah Cement have denounced the involvement of the Namibian Economic Freedom Fighters in their strike.

Last week, NEFF's Michael Amushelelo visited the workers at Otjiwarongo, urging them to stage a mass demonstration.

However, the Mine Workers Union's Cheetah Cement Branch's Chairperson, Naftal Nghipitwako, says whatever the NEFF leadership plans to do is entirely on their account.
