Employees of Namib Mills remain on strike amid a dispute over a proposed wage increase.
While reports claimed the company agreed to a 10% raise, workers have dismissed this as “fake news”, saying an internal memo reflects only a 5% increase.
Workers told NBC News they received drastically reduced salaries, with some paid as little as N$45, leaving families under severe financial strain. The Namibian Revolutionary Transport Union (NARETU) has accused the company of using intimidation tactics to force employees back to work.
A notice on the company premises gives workers until 31 January 2026 to accept the offer, warning that failure to do so will result in no bonus, no back pay, and unchanged conditions.
Namib Mills was contacted for comment on the strike and the claims raised by employees. The company said it would respond after receiving questions in writing, but no response had been received by the time of publication.
