Over 2,000 students graduate from NUST

More than 2,000 students graduated from the Namibian University of Science and Technology.

The graduates include two inmates from the Namibian Correctional Facility who obtained a Bachelor in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and 127 foreign students from Angola, Italy and Nigeria.
 
137 received certificates, 210 Diplomas, 599 obtained Bachelor's Degrees, 295 Honors Degrees and 223 Postgraduate diplomas.

The students obtained qualifications in Tourism, Communication, Business Management, and Criminal Justice.

NSFAF awards loans to 22,178 tertiary students

The Namibia Student Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) has awarded loans to 22,178 tertiary students.

The Fund received over 30,000 applications, and close to 8,000 did not qualify for the loan because they were not eligible.

Going to university can be a milestone for many and a proud moment for any parent.

But tertiary education is expensive, and by the time those who were given loans are done with their studies, they will be owing NASFAF thousands of dollars.

Need to improve proportion of male entrants to universities

There is a need to improve the proportion of male entrants to the country's universities.
 
Vice President Nangolo Mbumba, who is also Chancellor of the University of Namibia (UNAM), said this at the UNAM Southern Campus' 2023 graduation ceremony, held at Keetmanshoop.

240 students received certificates, diplomas, and degrees in the fields of health, geosciences, education, commerce, and law during the Unam Southern Campus graduation ceremony.

NSFAF and Welwitschia Health Training Centre sign MoU

The Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) and the Welwitschia Health Training Centre have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, aimed at financially assisting students at the institution.

The MoU will allow students to write exams and view their results while payments are being settled.

NSFAF acting CEO Kennedy Kandume called on students to ensure that their documents are in order and submitted on time to avoid delays and withdrawals, noting that the institution would try to ensure payments are done on time.

Bank of Namibia awards bursaries to nine undergraduate students

The Bank of Namibia (BoN) has awarded bursaries to nine undergraduate students to pursue their studies at various institutions of higher learning.

Over the past twenty years, the Central Bank has awarded bursaries for the development of human capacity and provided a helping hand to those from less privileged families.

IUM continues to increase intake capacity

The International University of Management (IUM) continues to increase its intake capacity annually.

The school that started with one learner in 1994 has a population of 13,500 students this year.

Speaking at the official opening of the 2023 academic year, Professor David Namwandi, the founder of IUM, says the university continues to reinvent itself to provide quality education.

IUM, he says, is determined to equip students with problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity skills that are aligned with the 21st century.

Dependents of former and current members of MUN to receive bursaries

27 dependents of former and current members of the Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) will receive bursaries to further their studies at different institutions.

This follows the launch of a Direct Strategy by the Mineworkers Union of Namibia, Namibia Miners Investment, and NAMMIC Investment Holdings.

The benefit strategy will focus on facilitating access to finance for micro- and small-medium businesses owned by current and former members as well as improving basic financial literacy among beneficiaries.

UNAM refused to release names of students accepted at School of Medicine & School of Surgery programs

The University of Namibia (UNAM) has refused to release the names of students who have been accepted to its School of Medicine and School of Surgery programs.

UNAM launched an internal investigation on Wednesday into allegations that it bases admissions to the school on tribal lines.

When probed for comment, UNAM did not deny or confirm the allegations, instead saying that a statement would be issued once the investigations were completed.

UNAM launches investigation into tribalism in selection of medical students

The University of Namibia (UNAM)  has launched an investigation into allegations of tribalism in the selection of students for its Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programs.

The university promised to release the outcome of the investigation next week.

The latest claims echo similar assertions made last year.

Namibia is a diverse country with many tribes, and allegations of tribalism raising their ugly heads are common.

Politicians, including President Hage Geingob, have strongly spoken out against the evils of tribalism.

NEFF calls on all tertiary institutions to stop asking for registration fees with immediate effect

The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) have called on tertiary institutions across the country to stop asking for registration fees with immediate effect.

In a media statement, NEFF cites the Namibian Constitution, which guarantees each Namibian the right to education.

"However, most people are denied this right due to the fact they do not have money to pay for higher tertiary education," reads the statement.
