The councillor of the Rundu Rural Constituency, Paulus Mbangu, says plans are in the pipeline to develop Kayengona village, some 18 kilometres east of Rundu. 

Kayengona Beach is a popular destination in the village as it attracts numerous visitors, especially during the summer.

"We are happy to see people flocking to Kahengona; it's a famous village. They are coming here because Kahengona is very peaceful, they are coming here because it is mesmerising with beauty, the landscape is eye-dropping; and the hospitality of the people here in Kahengona is felt by everyone."

Hompa Sofia Mundjembwe Kanyetu of the VaShambyu Traditional Authority was coronated at Kayengona Village in the Kavango East Region over the weekend.

Kayengona village was alive with songs and dances as visitors from near and far joined to celebrate the coronation of Hompa Sofia Mundjembwe Kanyetu.

The VaShambyu have been without a state-recognized leader for close to eight years.

The Supreme Court recently ruled in favour of Hompa Mundjembwe Kanyetu after a succession dispute between members of the royal family.

The Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, has reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring a regional road network that supports economic growth.

Mutorwa addressed officials at the inauguration of two key roads at Rundu in the Kavango East Region.

Phase two of the Maria Mwengere Road extends from the University of Namibia campus, over five government installations at Kayengona Village.

Dr Sam Nujoma Drive extends from Maria Mwengere Road through Kehemu Informal Settlement and up to Sauyemwa Informal Settlement.
