The councillor of the Rundu Rural Constituency, Paulus Mbangu, says plans are in the pipeline to develop Kayengona village, some 18 kilometres east of Rundu.
Kayengona Beach is a popular destination in the village as it attracts numerous visitors, especially during the summer.
"We are happy to see people flocking to Kahengona; it's a famous village. They are coming here because Kahengona is very peaceful, they are coming here because it is mesmerising with beauty, the landscape is eye-dropping; and the hospitality of the people here in Kahengona is felt by everyone."
But Mbangu adds that the place is more than just a recreational area.
"We have already taken Council resolutions. Kahengona, Muroro, and Mukwe to turn them into settlements, village councils and a town. We want to bring the model you see of Ongwediva, Ondangwa, Oshakati and we want to bring it here. Rundu is currently densely populated. The population is close to 100 thousand. We want to motivate people to come and reside here so we develop Kahengona into a town."
The Councillor says it has been a dream of the late VaShambyu Hompa, Maria Mwengere, to see Kahengona transform into a fully developed area.
"There is a secondary school here, there is a tribal office and a constituency office, there are a lot of economic activities, and it is even close to our green scheme. If you want to develop Namibia, the only way is to develop villages and constituencies."
