The election and subsequent ascension to power of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah have given new credence to women in politics in Africa.

In Zambia, female presidents of opposition political parties are equally optimistic that Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah has set a new path for women in politics. 

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) will hold by-elections in four constituencies by June of this year.

The positions became vacant following the swearing-in of four councillors as members of the National Assembly last week.

An induction and orientation seminar for new MPs themed "Fostering Effective and Meaningful Democracy," running from March 24 to March 28, this month, was marked by tension during its first session.

Ongwediva Town Mayor Tarah Shalyefu was among the limited number of invited guests to witness the swearing-in of Namibia's first female Head of State, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah at State House yesterday.

"Give space to the youth" were the words of Dr. Albert Kawana, former Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, as he bid farewell to his staff this week.

As we celebrate the incoming president, various ministries bid farewell to their ministers.

Outgoing Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr, Kalumbi Shangula, said his goodbyes to his staff, retiring at the age of 76.

Namibia marked 35 years of freedom and liberty and saw the swearing-in and inauguration of the 5th President today. 

Perusing through the archives, the first four Presidents had something in common.

Their distinction is not by character but by their vision for the country and its people.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah discussed the significance of having a female President, emphasising societal impact and the need for men and women to work together to develop the country.

As Dr. Nangolo Mbumba’s term comes to a close. Young people in Windhoek reflect on his leadership, highlighting both his achievements and challenges. Many praised his courage in leading the nation through two periods of national mourning.  

President Nangolo Mbumba attended his final sermon as head of state at his Olukonda ELCIN congregation in the Oshikoto Region.

With only a few days left before handing over to President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who will be sworn in on March 21, the church was filled to capacity.
