City of Windhoek to consult the public on the removal of colonial statue

The City of Windhoek will conduct a public survey on who or what should replace the statue of Curt Von Francois that was removed from its premises.

The City's Communications Manager Harold Akwenye said the public suggestions will be looked at once the new council is elected and that it will be a study process.

The statue has been relocated to the City of Windhoek's Museum.

"We want to rewrite the imbalance, we want to correct the history."

German South West Africa military officer, Curt von François' statue to be removed tomorrow

The City Of Windhoek is tomorrow enforcing a resolution passed during a municipal council meeting in October to remove the statue of German South West Africa military officer, Curt von François, from its premises.

The statue, according to a press release issued by the Windhoek City Council will be removed at a yet-to-be-determined time on Wednesday morning.

The statue which stood in front of the Council offices for nearly 60 years will be moved to the Windhoek City Museum for storage and will be re-erected at a not yet known date next year.
