The voter registration points across Windhoek are operating smoothly despite a delay in starting and minor problems with the voter card-printing machine. 

At the Khomasdal UNAM campus, the team had to be moved from the initial venue due to exam writing.

However, the team was swift in setting up the new venue. 

While at Marthi Ahtisaari Primary School in Wanaheda, people braved the cold wind in the open area to queue up to register.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has urged the public to register for the general registration of voters (GRV) exercise that started today, the 3rd of June, and ends on August 1.

Dr. Elsie Nghikembua made the call while registering at the MTC Head Quarter's registration point in Olympia, Windhoek, this morning.

President Nangolo Mbumba has labelled the voter registration process as a license for Namibians to vote and elect representatives of choice at national, regional, and local government levels.

President Mbumba and First Lady Sustjie Mbumba, accompanied by their children and grandchildren, registered at MTC headquarters in Olympia to participate in the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections. 

In full view of the rolling media cameras, the President and First Lady provided all the necessary details for the completion of the registration process.

Registration Points for 2024 GRV

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has officially started the general registration of voters (GRV) across the country this morning.

ECN has deployed 567 registration teams across the country to conduct the GRV, which is scheduled to take place from 03 June to 01 August 2024.

Election officials warned against deceit

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Namibia has cautioned election officials to maintain integrity in the voter registration process and to avoid actions that could raise doubts about the credibility of the upcoming elections.

Dr. Elsie Nghikembua made this plea during the closing of a 14-day training program for election officials in Otjiwarongo, in preparation for the national elections in November.

The 156 officials have been trained in various roles and responsibilities related to managing and overseeing all processes according to the Electoral Act.

Swapo Party concludes verification, certification of CC election results

Several SWAPO Party heavyweights finally made it to the list of the Central Committee after the conclusion of the voter verification and certification process in the early hours of Saturday.

This includes Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, who did not appear on the first list but is now in the top ten of female candidates.

The newly elected top four leaders ordered that a verification process be carried out after an error was detected during the counting process for the Central Committee election.

Itula submits papers to contest presidential election

Dr Panduleni Itula on Tuesday submitted his nomination documents to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) to contest the upcoming presidential election as an independent candidate. ECN Chief Electoral Officer, Theo Mujoro confirmed that they have received the submission and said it was merely a matter of submitting his papers as an independent candidate to contest in the presidential election on 27 November this year. He said ECN will verify the submitted documents and make a proclamation in 10 days on whether the submission is accepted or not.
