The Nest Four Star Hotel which was constructed at Luderitz 25 years ago has given the habour town a face-lift.
This is the site that was earmarked for the construction of a new harbour to accommodate larger vessels at Luderitz and is now where the state-of-the-art four-star hotel has been built.
The four-star hotel was inaugurated by Founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma in April 1998.
That was 25 years ago, today the Luderitz Nest Hotel has changed the image of the town, which for years was anchored on the fishing and mining industry.
Ulf Grunewald is the General Manager of the Luderitz Nest Hotel.
"When the decision was made eventually to build this hotel we decided to build a big hotel because what was happening is that South Africa owned Walvis Bay, Namibia was independent and did not have its own harbour and, therefore, it was important to develop the Luderitz harbour for the future, and we took the opportunity and invested in it."
The Nest Hotel celebrated its 25th anniversary at a glittering event hosted for stakeholders in the hospitality industry.
Workers that have been with the hotel for more than 10 years were also honored for their dedication and commitment throughout the years.
The hotel currently has 35 staff members with an additional ten employed on a seasonal basis.
