Swanu Leader Dr. Tangeni Iijambo has introduced a motion for debate on the Policy of National Reconciliation in the National Assembly.
Dr. Iijambo is of the opinion that the difficulties the country is facing in terms of socio-economic development, stability, and injustice are due to the trauma of apartheid and war that the country and its people endured.
"In Namibia, building a social order is often the well-touted peace and stability mantra of the ruling party, which is employed as a means to avoid confronting difficulties issued by our common and violent past."
He said unity is a prerequisite for development and accused the government of making reconciliation impossible.
"How is genuine reconciliation possible while the government continues to uphold the same policies that were designed to divide and rule Namibia, like Ovambo lokasie, Herero lokasie, and Nama lokasie?"
Dr. Iijambo advocated for true reconciliation that would guarantee tranquillity.
For the sake of peace and stability, justice, and equality before the law, Iijambo urged the government to not only engage people who faced deprivation and insecurity but to also introduce measures that will restore their human dignity and ensure that they occupy their rightful place in Namibian society.
