A young entrepreneur from Okaruikombungu Village in the Otjombinde Constituency, Kahitee Keeja, is determined to keep the garden project she runs going despite the limited resources at her disposal.

Food sustainability and job creation are key reasons for this determination, she tells nbc News during a visit to her two-hectare garden project in Omaheke Region.

Green-fingered Kahitee Keeja says that the garden was started last year with onion and potato planting, but unfavourable weather patterns affected most of the potato produce, with onions fairing a bit better.

Keeja added that challenges such as limited water infrastructure, pesticides, and storage facilities are affecting the garden project.

Marketing her products is not a problem, she says, as they supply some big retailers in Gobabis and catering companies that distribute to local schools.

Keeja added that the idea is to increase the size of the crop field in the near future and introduce more crops.

The Constituency Councillor, Wenzel Kavaka, applauded Keeja's entrepreneurial spirit and promised to aid the project through the regional council's office.

Kavaka added that if the region's residents can come up with more gardening projects, then food insecurity and malnutrition will be addressed in the region.

The project has so far employed five local people.
