Residents of Katima Mulilo owe the town council about N$120 million in municipal services.
This was revealed during what was meant to be feedback to residents of Katima Mulilo, who held a demonstration demanding better services from the Katima Mulilo Town Council.
The demonstrators complained about the lack of roads in Choto, Cowboy, Makaravan East and West, Butterfly, and Mahohoma areas, and the alleged downgrading of the BOMA residential area.
They also want the Chief Executive Officer and all the councillors removed.
They further demanded the allocation of land and that the council hold public meetings with the residents to discuss alleged corruption at the town council and the removal of Redforce debt collectors.
Ngweze location tops the list with more than N$55 million, followed by Cowboy compound with N$11.5 million.
Boma Location owes N$10.9 million, Choto N$9.3 million, Lyambai N$6.2 million, Mavuluma Extension N$1.4 million, Mahohoma N$3.6 million, Build Together social housing N$2.9 million, while Greenwell Matongo owes N$1.3 million.
Others owe between N$12,000 and N$2 million.
The town council informed residents that there is no budget provision for roads in the current financial year.
The chairperson of the Katima Mulilo Town Council Management Committee, John Ntemwa, promised residents that the council will start with public meetings in all suburbs to provide comprehensive information on budget operations.
Ntemwa, however, blamed residents for allegedly not attending council meetings when they were called.
Regarding the removal of the CEO and the political leadership, Ntemwa said that "if there are allegations of misconduct by the CEO, by law they should be investigated, and charges brought forward for allegations against him are of substance."
The town council also indicated that it is in no position to terminate the RedForce contract.
