Oshakati's informal settlement of Onawa has benefited from a donation of N$3,2 million from two businesses.

The funds will be used to construct a police station, which will greatly enhance the safety and security of the residents.

The two businesses, Multilever, which donated N$3 million, and Sash Trading, which donated N$200 000, say they recognised the urgent need for improved law enforcement infrastructure in the area.

With the crime rate on the rise, the establishment of a modern police station will allow the police to effectively combat criminal activities and ensure the well-being of the residents.

Police Inspector General Joseph Shikongo says the donation highlights the collaborative efforts between the private sector and the community in crime prevention.

"You are our strategic partners. If every Namibian could just emulate your example that patriotic duty coming from COVID-19 and the economic meltdown, but you decided to spend your cents on national contribution, There are people who are spending their money putting up big mansions and buying private jets because the money you are spending here is worth a private jet."

The spokesperson for the businesses expressed their dedication to ploughing back in the community.

The infrastructure will enable the police to respond more efficiently to incidents, conduct thorough investigations, and establish a stronger presence in the community.

"By donating to the opening of the new police station, we have contributed towards building a stronger community and fostering trust between citizens and law enforcement agencies."

"We are extremely proud and honoured to make a donation that meets the government halfway in the delivery of service to the people of Oshakati and Onawa."

Once operational, the facility will house modern equipment and technology, provide adequate office spaces for police personnel, and offer a secure environment for both officers and community members seeking assistance.

The construction work is expected to commence in March.

The completion is scheduled for September.
