Even if a learner achieves top performance in Grade 11, they will not be accepted at the University of Namibia (UNAM).
UNAM's Student Recruitment and Operations Officer, Josy Nghipandua, has reiterated that one must have completed Grade 12.
Nghipandua advised learners to take at least two AS subjects, which are to be combined with three ordinary-level subjects, for the required marks.
She says, that with adjustments to the curriculum, there are vital NQF levels needed as well as a level of maturity to join the tertiary phase.
This, she states, is a standard the university will maintain, considering requirements for international qualifications.
Nghipandua further clarified the different admission procedures between legacy students who have done Grade 12 before the curriculum change at either an ordinary or high level and those post-2021.
She narrates that legacy students are still eligible to apply for diplomas and degrees at UNAM.
The higher learning institution has also done away with science foundation courses as the applicants meet requirements to progress to the science faculty as well as to adhere to cost implications.
Nghipandua stressed that there is a need to prepare and aid learners for general admission into tertiary institutions.
