On Wednesday, Namibia's futsal national team revealed that the squad will be playing their final AFCON qualifying match on the 3rd of February in Windhoek, at the Showgrounds.
This match holds great significance as it will determine if Namibia qualifies for the eighth edition of the tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Morocco from April 8th to April 17th.
A total of 15 players were announced to be part of the squad by the Namibia Football Association during a press briefing.
These players will represent the country at this year's AFCON qualifiers. Both Namibia and Tanzania will be making their first appearance at the tournament, among the 12 nations competing.
For the Namibian team to make it to the upcoming event hosted by Morocco, they will need to defeat Tanzania.
Futsal is a game played similarly to football, with the objective of advancing and scoring goals against the opposing team. Each team consists of five players. Namibia was placed in group 1 alongside Mozambique, Tanzania, and Zambia.
According to Namibian Futsal's Adre' Tirtirau, the team is hopeful of winning the game against Tanzania to secure qualification for AFCON.
"We decided to jump into the deep end with this first qualifications game ever for Namibia in the Futsal fear. We are playing with Tanzania also for some entrance to a qualifying game at home in Windhoek on the 3rd February at 19h00 at the Windhoek Sport Plaza. We are expecting to have a lot of support for our boys. I think we have a great national team, and so far we have selected the best of the best from our premier league and teams from various leagues. We are looking forward to expanding and looking at other national teams at other levels " Tirtirau said.
Two players who will be featured in the AFCON Qualifiers said they will try their utmost best to beat Tanzania.
"Our objective is to qualify. The preparations have been going well, and fitness has been very good. I mean here and there we have injuries, but through that, we will still have positive results against Tanzania" said midfielder George Haikali
"We are not gonna underestimate, but we are gonna take the game as it comes. We are both first-time participants in this competition, so we are going to bounce back and forth in this game. We are confident enough, and we are going to be victorious in this game, but we are not going to underestimate them, and we will give our all" added forward Luis Solunga.
During the same event, JSB Sports Betting announced a contribution of 300,000 Namibia dollars to assist the national team, who will still need to travel for an away game on February 9th.
As it stands, Angola, Egypt, and Morocco are considered the highest-ranked nations in this tournament.
