President Hage Geingob, aged 82, passed away in Windhoek on Sunday.

Vice-President Nangolo Mbumba made the announcement during an address to the nation.

Dr. Geingob was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Lady Pohamba Private Hospital for a follow-up treatment for the treatment he received in the US for cancerous cells.

Mbumba said that Geingob's medical team had been trying its utmost to ensure that he recovered, but sadly, he passed on.

The Vice President appealed for calm among Namibians while the government attends to all necessary arrangements, preparations, and other protocols.

Cabinet is expected to convene with immediate effect in that regard to make the necessary state directives.
