An urgent interdict court application seeking to reverse the termination of service of three members of the ||Kharas Regional Council was averted after the parties reached a settlement agreement.

The councillors in question, Lazarus Nangolo, Taimi Amakali, and Suzan Ndjaleka, all represent the Swapo Party.

The LPM-dominated council relieved the councillors of their duties without remuneration on January 25 for allegedly absconding council meetings and refusing to accept council management committee member positions.

The urgent High Court application was scheduled for Friday, but before it reached the court, a settlement agreement was reached between the parties.

In terms of the settlement agreement, the regional council and its chairperson will not implement the decision to end the three Swapo Party councillors' council memberships, as taken at the special meeting on January 25.

The councillors will also continue receiving all remuneration and benefits.

The matter is now removed from the urgent court roll and will proceed in an ordinary course, though issues raised in the court application remain urgent.

The respondents will file their answering affidavits on or before March 1, and the applicants must respond by March 19.

The parties also agreed that the cost of the urgent court application would be determined in due course.
