In a bid to address challenges like poor school performance and ill discipline among learners, a group of retired academics and other community members of Otjombinde Constituency have formed a 'technical education committee' to deal with these matters.
Speaking at Talismanus in the Otjombinde Constituency, Chairperson of the Committee, Jefta Tjozongoro, stressed that they are spearheading the initiative with various interventions, such as visiting schools to assess the teaching and learning environment.
Tjozongoro added that the committee will advocate for holiday schools and motivational talks.
They will also attempt to find strategies to address ill-discipline among scholars.
"Our secondary school is C Heuva and is the only secondary in the otjombinde and is the one that carries the image and the identity of the area, which means that its where we have final products before they go to tertiary education, and in this school our performance is very pathetic. Thats why now we started to discuss and consider what we can do as ex-profesionals in order to improve the situation in the area."
Maharero Traditional Authority Senior Councillor, Eerike Kaposambo, said it is high time that traditional leaders ensure that parents take the lead in their children's education.
"Our wish is to call upon everyone to work together if we have to improve our education level in this area."
The Councillor of Otjombinde, Wenzel Kavaka, says that the aim is to improve education results in the constituency, hence, all hands, namely everyone with a stake, are urged to come on deck.
"Most of the difficult thing that is making our results not be good at school is discipline, so the schools should be disciplined, learners and parents should be disciplined, and teachers too. So the very first thing that we have to do in order for us to improve results at the school level is discipline, and it has to cascade from the parents to the teachers to the learners."
The Otjombinde Constituency has five primary schools and one senior secondary school.
