Two of the 67 cases reported to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the Erongo Region have resulted in convictions.

The ACC held an annual media briefing at Swakopmund, where the institution maintained that it is not toothless.

The 67 cases investigated during the 2023/24 financial year resulted in two convictions and six cases closed.

41 of the cases handled remain ongoing, while 18 cases were sent to the prosecutor general's office for a decision.

Another notable ongoing investigation is the alleged embezzlement of N$1.2 million meant as a donation to a training institution.

The investigation of cases is hampered by factors including hostile witnesses, a lack of investigators, and reliance on third-party sources for information.

ACC Chief Investigating Officer, Willem Olivier, says institutions that take long to provide information also delay progress.

The Erongo Governor commended the ACC for its annual media platform and highlighted the power of collaboration in the fight against corruption.

Media houses were encouraged to continue uncovering corruption incidents that serve to deprive citizens of the best possible service.
