The persistent drought in the Zambezi Region is increasing the human-wildlife conflict.

The past weekend saw wildebeests damaging farmers' crops who are practising wetland cultivation at Malindi Village in Kabbe North Constituency.

The hopes for wetland farmers to put food on the table before the next ploughing season have been dashed following the grazing of wildlife at the Malindi flood plains.

One of the farmers, Katherine Kayela, said she has reported the matter to the Sikunga Conservancy many times, but nothing has been done yet to scare the animals from the crop field.

Kaela is appealing for assistance in the form of a fence to secure her crops and further requesting to be provided with seeds to plough again.

The Induna of the area, Chrispin Nyambe, said he is disappointed.

The Ministry of Environment's Spokesperson, Romeo Muyunda, promised to respond to queries made to him but did not respond until the time of the broadcast.
