Kunene Police Commander Commissioner James Nderura has called on political parties and members of the public to adhere to the Code of Conduct on the day of polling.

Political parties and organisations are prohibited from convening or holding a public gathering of any kind; publishing, or causing or permitting the publication of, any advertisement or statement promoting or opposing a particular political party or a political organisation or candidate from midnight, 24 hours before polling day until polling stations are closed.

The Code of Conduct further indicates that on polling day, all political parties and organisations and all their candidates, members, and supporters must cooperate with election officials to ensure a peaceful election without any intimidation, annoyance, or disturbance.

"We will not tolerate or condone any situation of unruly people; people must behave during that day of elections. They must form up in the queues as prescribed by the presiding officer and police officer at the polling station; therefore, we request our community to behave in order to cast your vote in an orderly manner during that day of elections."

He also reminds owners of entertainment facilities to adhere to the rules and regulations that apply to public holidays.

"We have already communicated to bar owners for them to close on the 27th, and anyone who contravenes this will face drastic action against them."
