Police in the Hardap Region have launched the festive season operation focused on protecting lives, safeguarding properties, and promoting road safety.
In his message, Police Inspector General, Lieutenant-General Joseph Shikongo, stressed the importance of compliance and vigilance by all road users as well as the public.
The message was delivered by Hardap Police Regional Commander, Commissioner Sidney Philander, during the launch of a festive operation dubbed 'Operation Rainbow Bowl'.
"Allow me at this juncture to highlight festive season road safety for 20223/2024, which reported a total of 447 crashes, 837 injuries, and 59 fatalities. Furthermore, a total of 344 fatalities were also reported for the period of 1 January 2024 until 3 November 2024, which is a huge concern. This already gives an indication that road users are still not complying with the road safety regulations; thus all road users are compelled to adhere to the provisions of the Road Traffic and Transportation Act, No. 2 of 1999, as amended, at all times."
Commissioner Philander also expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their collaboration with police during and after the just-concluded presidential and national assembly elections.
Hardap Governor Salomon April encouraged police to maintain a high level of professionalism and vigilance in their duties.
