A two-day-old baby in Opuwo had luck on her side on Wednesday evening when a passerby heard her desperate cry in the dark.
This was after her mother gave birth to her shortly before and left her still in the afterbirth and wrapped in a dark green blanket.
Nampol's Head of Community Liaison in the Kunene Region, Chief Inspector Vehangaiza Hindjou, informed nbc News that they received an alert of a dumped baby near the Roads Authority Offices at around 20:30.
Chief Inspector Hindjou reports that the baby, named Michelle by the nursing staff at the Opuwo State Hospital where she is undergoing assessment, is healthy.
Meanwhile, after a police investigation, the 18-year-old mother was found lying in a pool of blood at home.
The mother, who also has a 2-year-old daughter, is currently undergoing a social care worker assessment before any formal charge lodgings.
