A human head was found dumped at the railway line in Grootfontein yesterday.
Two 14-year-old boys discovered the head, which was wrapped in a black refuse bag, in an open space.
The Head of Community Policing, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, said that the boys reported the gruesome discovery to the police, and preliminary investigations suggest that the person may have been murdered recently.
The head is being kept at the Grootfontein State Mortuary pending a pathology investigation. It has not yet been established whether it belongs to a male or female person.
Police in the Otjozondjupa Region are calling on the public with missing relatives to contact them, as no missing persons have been reported in Grootfontein since the beginning of this year.
Police investigations continue.
