The spokesperson of the Namibian Defence Force, Colonel Petrus Shilumbu, said the NDF will only respond to the case in which a court ordered it to reinstate 19-year-old Joel Velipufye, who was removed from training, after studying the judgement.

Velipufye scored 37 points in Grade 12, including five A’s, and passed all required tests, including physical and medical exams.

NDF recruiting officer Stanley !Nawaseb, mentioned in court documents, confirmed Velipufye's selection on multiple occasions.

The aspiring soldier was also admitted to the Namibian University of Science and Technology to study applied mathematics but chose to forgo his admission after the NDF confirmed his acceptance into this year’s cohort.

Velipufye expressed shock in court documents upon learning that his name was omitted from the list announcing the commencement of training.

After following up with the NDF, he claims he was informed that there were “just too many” recruits, and some had to be dropped.

On Thursday, High Court Judge Gerson |Narib granted an interim order for the NDF to immediately reinstate Velipufye in training.

Judge |Narib gave the NDF until June 8 to explain why this order should not be made final.

He ordered that Velipufye begin training by Monday, May 26.
