The Nkurenkuru Town Council has raised concerns that the underfunding of the N$6 million budget may hinder critical town development.

The Nkurenkuru Town Council Planning Officer, Albertina Shatiwa, has expressed dissatisfaction with the budget allocation, which she says is insufficient to address the Council's needs.

"We requested money, around N$20 million for this current financial year, so that we can finalise current extension four with the municipal services. At this moment, it's only sewer phase two, because we have already started with phase one."

Despite the limited funds, the council is prioritising the development of Nkurenkuru Extensions three and four as well as sewer reticulation.

Due to financial constraints, the Council will be forced to allocate unserviced land to residents, which comes with long-term implications.

"We unfortunately don't have sufficient funds in order to service the land, so we allocated unserviced land, which obviously also needs the council to service these areas with the municipal services, which include roads, water and sewer."
