Namibia and Algeria have renewed their commitment to work closely together in the oil, gas, and wider energy sector.

This follows a meeting between Vice President Lucia Witbooi and Algeria's Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab.

The talks highlighted Namibia's growing plans to develop its oil and gas industry, with Algeria confirming its readiness to support Namibia as a partner in this effort.

Vice President Witbooi expressed gratitude for Algeria's long-standing solidarity, reiterating President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah's commitment to ensuring that Namibians fully benefit from the country's emerging oil and gas industry.

She highlighted that Namibia aims to strengthen national legislation, enhance institutional capacity, and maximise economic returns from its natural resources, drawing on Algeria's experience in the sector.

Minister Arkab reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to partnering with Namibia, aligning with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's broader vision of fostering South-South cooperation across the African continent.

Algeria also expressed its willingness to share expertise through legal advisory support, capacity-building and technical training expert exchanges to deepen cooperation in the energy sector.

Both countries agreed to intensify bilateral engagement, including forthcoming high-level visits to Algeria for in-depth discussions and site visits to key strategic facilities in oil, gas, liquefied natural gas and renewable energy.
