The Minister of International Relations and Trade, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, said progressive trade fairs and expos are proof of a blueprint for community-driven development that mirrors Namibia's collective ambition under the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6) and Africa's shared dream under Agenda 2063.

Officially opening the Tsumeb Copper Festival, Ashipala-Musavyi says Agenda 2063 calls for Africans to reclaim their identity, innovate within their heritage, and build industries that serve their people.

Ashipala-Musavyi commended the festival's 20 years of progressive development, which also coincides with the 120-year celebration of the founding of Tsumeb.

"NDP6 seeks to accelerate our nation's transition into a knowledge-based, industrialised, and digitally driven economy, one that empowers the youth, strengthens local industries, enhances agricultural productivity, advances green and digital transformation, and builds creativity and optimises Namibia's international trade capacity. This festival embodies these aspirations by creating a vibrant platform for innovation, entrepreneurship, and community-driven growth."

Ashipala-Musavyi commended the Copper Festival for evolving through integrated programmes of agriculture, business, youth development, sports and SME training.

Oshikoto Governor Sackey Kathindi reaffirmed support for the festival.

"Our shared commitment is to advance local economic empowerment, industrial diversification, and social cohesion. Let us ensure that the Tsumeb Copper Festival continues to serve as a catalyst for entrepreneurship, innovation, and regional growth."

Tsumeb Mayor Mathews Hangula says Tsumeb has built economic ambitions and legacies, and as such, residents must take advantage of opportunities to grow.

"Tsumeb has long built a foundation of Namibia's economic ambitions and remains a bridge to our vision of prosperity and growth. With these proud legacies and resilient spirit, Tsumeb must continue to turn local opportunity into lasting progress for all."

The festival concludes on Saturday.
