The Road Authority (RA) has launched its Roads Management System (RMS) Hub, demonstrating commitment to managing its vast network with foresight and responsibility.
Speaking at the launch on behalf of the CEO, RA Executive Officer Mex Muatjetjeja stated that the hub is more than a showcase. It is a place for reflection, learning, and collaboration.
"Namibia has consistently ranked among the top countries in Africa in the World Economic Forum's road quality indicator, including achieving the highest road quality score in Africa in several years. The contribution of the RMS in this regard cannot be underestimated."
Sophia Tekie, the Head of the RMS, said, "We want to keep that ranking since 2017 as one of the best roads in Africa, and that ranking can only be maintained when we do our road maintenance in time, and also the distribution of funding needs to be more on preservation rather than new development."
Tekie further stated that RMS should be recognised as a strategic management system, not merely a planning or maintenance tool.
The RA aims to develop a risk management framework to identify, assess, and mitigate risks in asset management, fostering a risk-aware culture and integrating it with the RMS.
