Namibia recorded 488 road fatalities between 01 January and 14 December 2025, representing a 20% increase compared to the same period last year.

3,126 crashes were recorded, a 4.2% increase compared to the previous year. However, 5,111 injuries were reported, marking a 1.8% decline.

Meanwhile, statistics from the 2025/26 Festive Season Road Safety Campaign, from 20 November 2025 to 14 December 2025, indicate a worrying rise in fatalities.

45 people died on the roads, a 22% increase compared to the 2024/25 festive season.

During the same festive period, 208 crashes were recorded, while 351 injuries were reported.

Both figures represent an 18% decrease compared to the previous festive season.

Authorities have urged motorists and all road users to exercise extreme caution, emphasising that speeding, drinking and driving, fatigue, and distraction remain leading contributors to road crashes.

Road users have also been reminded to ensure vehicle roadworthiness before embarking on any journey by checking brakes, tyres, lights, and other critical components.

Special attention has further been drawn to pedestrian safety, as pedestrians continue to account for a high percentage of road fatalities.

Traffic officers have been deployed across national roads to enhance visibility during the festive season.
