The ||Kharas Education Director, Nicolaas Eiman, says it is all systems go when the new academic year starts on Monday.
Eiman told NBC News that both urban and rural schools are ready for the 2026 academic year despite some challenges.
These include aging infrastructure, especially in rural schools, and overcrowding.
“Most of our schools are ready, and most of the appointments of our teaching staff have been made; classrooms are ready and functional; and the basic resources and furniture are available, as well as the sanitary materials at schools.”
The new Chief Hendrik Tseib Primary School at Keetmanshoop will also open on Monday to ease pressure on schools.
“They already started last year with enrollment. They have a total of six classrooms ready to accommodate two pre-primary classes, two for Grade 1, one for Grade 2, and one for Grade 3,” Eiman added.
The Directorate has also commenced the distribution of desks and chairs to schools.
