Thirty-two participants, consisting of 30 men and 2 women from across Namibia, have been certified as new introductory coaches after completing a five-day course in Outapi.
The training covered player development, basic rules, components of training sessions, game regulations, tactics, and coaching methods. The course took place during the off-season, with participants paying N$600 for the introductory level, while the advanced NFA Coaching Course is priced at N$1,200.
Benjamen Ekondo, Chairperson of the Omusati Regional Football Association, praised the new coaches and thanked instructors John Sikerete, Kankondi Petrus, and Allexander Itumba for their expertise.
"I want to indicate, we are a special group. Let us stay together and move to the next level together. There is another level," Benjamen Ekondo said.
Junior instructor Allexander Itumba encouraged the coaches to take their careers seriously, noting the increasing requirements for formal qualifications within the sport.
"We are encouraging all coaches to take coaching seriously because going forward, our leagues from 3rd, 2nd, to 1st division - must be coached by licensed coaches," Allexander Itumba said.
Hertha Andreas, one of only two women participants, described the experience as an eye-opener and highlighted the practical benefits for club football.
"This was very informative and an eye-opener. When we return to our clubs, we know what to do and what not to do, and how to train players based on their age group. I encourage more women to take part in these courses so that more female coaches can emerge," Hertha Andreas said.
Among the top performers was Joseph Anyala, a player for Onambula United and coach of the Ruacana High School women's soccer team, who advocated for former players to transition into coaching.
"The course is very beneficial. It helps coaches understand the game better and become better at coaching. I encourage my fellow colleagues and former players to take part in these courses," Joseph Anyala said.
The 32 newly certified coaches are now ready to apply their skills across clubs and leagues in Namibia, helping to improve football standards and grow the game at all levels.
