India and Namibia's bilateral relations were in the spotlight as the High Commission of India hosted celebrations to mark its 77th Republic Day in Windhoek.
The event highlighted decades of diplomatic cooperation and people-to-people ties, as well as growing collaboration in trade, education, culture, and capacity building.
India's Republic Day, celebrated annually on January 26th, commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution and its commitment to democracy, unity, and sovereignty.
This year's celebration brought together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, the Indian community, and friends of India to reflect on the deepening partnership between the two nations.
Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade Jenelly Matunda spoke on behalf of the ministry.
"Namibia and India share long-standing and cordial relations, rooted in solidarity during Namibia's struggle for independence and strengthened over the years through close political cooperation, people-to-people ties, and collaboration in various sectors, including trade, education, ICT, health, defence, and capacity building. Both governments have shown significant commitment to expand cooperation in various areas."
In recent years, bilateral relations have reached new heights through high-level engagements and strategic partnerships, said Indian High Commissioner to Namibia, Rahul Shrivastava.
"In the 77 years since its adoption, India's Constitution has been our guiding light, delivering on its core commitments of justice, liberty and equality for all citizens. We have achieved incredible progress and reinforced national unity within a vibrant democracy, leveraging the pluralistic and consultative fabric of our diverse society. India values its partnership with Namibia very deeply. Our cooperation spans many areas, from capacity building and education to trade, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, and we are committed to further strengthening these relations."
The evening showcased India's rich heritage, symbolising unity in diversity, a value shared by both nations.
For many people in attendance, the celebration reaffirmed the importance of diplomacy, cultural exchange, and storytelling in strengthening international relations.
