A delegation from Vojvodina, a province in northern Serbia, visited the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), where it announced fully funded scholarships for Namibian students to pursue studies in technical fields.

The president of Vojvodina, Maja Gojković, said Serbia is expanding opportunities for international education through a government-supported initiative aimed at attracting Namibian students to pursue higher education.

"What may be interesting for you is that the state of Serbia has this programme, which is titled 'World in Serbia', and it offers scholarships to different countries, thus allowing and enabling foreign students to come to our country to continue their studies. And these scholarships are free; all costs are covered by the state of Serbia. We have very good cooperation with your country, with the state of Latvia, and at the moment, every year, we offer three to five scholarships for your students, depending on the number of applicants and their interest."

She further added that Namibia should partner with their institutions, as many European-funded projects require African partners, creating wider opportunities for cooperation, knowledge sharing and development across different sectors.

"Our universities cooperate very well with European projects, and therefore, through our scientific team, we get a lot of projects that are funded from Europe, and one of the conditions to get these funds is always to have an African country as a partner country. So it would be our really strong proposal and suggestion to establish contacts from your side and our side to include them in these projects that are funded from Europe."
