Namibia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are working to strengthen cooperation on defence and security during a meeting between Namibia’s Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Frans Kapofi, and DRC’s Defence Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Guy Mwadiamvita, in Windhoek.

Kapofi emphasized the importance of strong military capacity alongside mediation efforts, “At the same time, we must recognise that peace is not sustained by dialogue alone. It requires a strong and capable national and regional defence and security architecture, one that can deter threats of any kind.”

Mwadiamvita highlighted the foundational ties and future ambitions, “Our shared membership in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) already provides an important foundation for this project. However, we believe it is now necessary to go beyond this community framework and to establish a direct, regular, and substantive contact between our two ministries of Defences. In other words, the DRC wishes to lay the groundwork with Namibia for a genuine bilateral partnership, built on trust, consultations, and gradual identification of concrete areas of cooperation.”

The delegation toured Namibia’s defence industries to explore the country’s defence industrial capabilities.
